Why anni dewani was killed

Anni was shot dead by one of two men who took control of the vehicle. The first was that it was a robbery gone wrong. Van Zyl pointed to forensic evidence indicating that Anni may have been shot by accident as one of the hijackers attempted to wrest her handbag away from her. The shot went off and she was shot as she tried to get out of the car.

Van Zyl based this theory partly on the witness testimony of a criminal named Bernard Mitchell who claimed Tongo had told him about the plot in prison afterwards. Tongo in effect got 17 years off a potential year jail sentence in return for his testimony. Qwabe got eight years off a jail term. Mbolombo was offered immunity from prosecution. All three men fared terribly in the witness box. That Traverso rejected the testimonies of Tongo, Qwabe and Mbolombo means it is reasonable to assume the trio concocted their tale that Dewani arranged the murder.

The conspiracy may have been hatched on the various occasions they were permitted by the police to talk to each other after they were arrested. Tongo confessed that Dewani gave him R15, to find hitmen to kill Anni.

Tongo, who was sentenced shortly after the murder, said he hired Xolile Mngeni and Mziwamadoda Qwabe to carry out the hit. Both men received lengthy jail sentences, but Mngeni has since died. Dewani was extradited and stood trial for murder in the high court in Cape Town in , but he was discharged because of a lack of evidence. At first he asked why, why, why. Then he realised that parole is a privilege and not a right and that he still has eight years of his sentence to serve.

In May , after he saw the parole board, they withheld his release on review for a year. That was based on a report that his rehabilitation was not complete. This was why he saw the parole board again in May and got his release date of July And that is what he did. He is fooling the system, he is fooling everybody. We thought that he would at least regret what he did but I could see no regret on his face.

Anni, 28, was killed in the back of a taxi while on honeymoon with her new husband in Gugulethu township, near Cape Town on November 13 She had been married for only a few weeks. She suffered a single gunshot to her neck after her husband fled the taxi which was later found abandoned with her body in it.

He said his life was spared as the two gunmen forced him out of the vehicle at gunpoint, before murdering his new bride.

But he was accused of organising the hit on his wife with the taxi driver and paying him and two accomplices. During his trial, he admitted he had been leading a secret double life and that he had seen male prostitutes. But the judge Jeanette Traverso refused to allow the prosecution permission to present him to the court as a witness. Dewani was declared innocent by the court in Cape Town in December The judge threw out the case, saying she was not prepared to rely on the evidence of three convicted men and that the case against Dewani was riddled with lies.

Dewani, 40, was only brought to South Africa from Britain for trial four years after his wife died after experiencing trauma and mental health issues as a result of the murder. But Anni's father said: 'We still do not have the whole story of how it happened. We wanted to hear Shrien tell the court in his own words. He was her husband. He was there. Anni was killed in the back of a taxi on honeymoon with her new husband in a Cape Town township on November 13 Mr Dewani right was cleared of involvement in Anni's murder during a trial in South Africa.

Following the court case, Mr Dewani, who is bisexual, has found new love with Brazilian photographer Gledison Lopez Martins seen together left. My family would like to talk to him. After all, I am still his father-in-law and I gave him my daughter. He must help us. South African Xolile Mngeni was convicted of premeditated murder for shooting her.

Prosecutors claimed he was a hitman hired by Dewani to kill his wife, which Dewani consistently denied. Mngeni died in prison from a brain tumour.
